Conclusion

During the time we were doing research for the project, we learned a lot about the sports in both countrys. There are a lot of similarities and also a lot of differences. For example the interest for sports is the same in both countrys. In both manz people want to pratise some kind of sports, they're also healthy because of this. From the other side, the sports that are practised the most are different from eachother. In Slovenia the winter sports with snow are a lot more popular than in Holland. But ofcourse thats logical.
Both countrys try to make sporting as attractive as possible. We can say they are doing a good job, a lot of people like sports. The facilities and training times are arranged very well.
We both learned something about the culture of another country, we now know more about eachother and how you can communicate with people living really far away from eachother.
Our conclusion is very postivie. We reached our goals and we're happy with the results.

Thank you.

Awnsers

Questions need awnsers. In this post we will try to give a good awnser to the sub-questions.
1. Which sports we chose and what are the criteria for our choise?
- As the most popular sports in Holland we took football and athletics. Football is not hard to explain. Everyone in Holland knows about football, even if you don't want to. A lot of younger children are practising the sport. Also our survey showed that a lot of people think this is the most popular sport. For athletics we have other criteria. In Uden there is a very big athletics stadiums, one of the first so called 'Mondo' tracks in Holland. Many people think of athletics when they hear the word sports.
- As the most popular sports in Slovenia we took skiing and football. Slovenia has a lot of mountains, so Slovenians got the possibility to practise skiing. Many of the famous sporters born in Slovenia pratice skiing. We visitied the skiing course and we saw that the club pays a lot of attention to the course. Also almost everyone of the youth likes football. They ofthen go out to the playground and play some games of football with friends.

2. How good do the countries participate in the championships of these sports?
- Holland is a good participant in the world of football. A lot of famous player are born and started playing in Holland (for example Robben). We've also won the world championship some times. We're also not doing bad in the athletics championships. The players are not that famous, but the Dutch are doing well in the competition with others.
- Slovenia is doing really good in skiing, especially at womens skiing. Slovenia has won a lot of awards, also on the Winter Olympics. Our best skier is Tina Maze. She accomplished a lot of things in her life. Slovenia is not that good in football. But they enjoy practising it and that's why someone practises sport.

3. How much training time need these sports?
Ofcourse the sports need a lot of practise. We tried to look at the differences but we found out its a bit of the same. Sporters approximately train 2-4 times a week. Theres also a difference between the training. A skiing course can last for 3 hours easily. A football/athletics training lasts only for like 1,5 hours.

4.  How accessible are the sport facilities.
The most of the time the sporting facilities are really accissible. In Uden and Ljubljana there are enough places where we could practise these sports. So we found out the accissibility is not a problem when someone wants to practise sports.

In Holland, we asked several people to fill in our self-made survey. These are the results shown in a pie chart.
As seen in the pie chart, the youth in Holland has a lot of different interests according to sports. Football is defenitely the most popular sport. Also the media pays a lot of attention to Football. For example every sunday 'NOS Studio Sport' is broadcasted. A lot of people watch this program, especially the Football part called 'NOS Studio Sport Eredivisie'. On the other side, basketball is not very popular in Holland. Only 1 person from the 29 results practised basketball. The other sports are well distributed. Some are more popular than others, but thats normal.
In Holland we went to an athletics stadium. We interviewed a important person from the club and got some useful information. The club is called De Keien. They've got 650 members (100 youth members). Unfortunately most of the younger members stop practising the sports when they grow older, they get other interesest (puberty). Its not very expensive to pratice athletics. For the seniors, its only €37,50 per 3 months and for juniors its onlz €30,00. You can also just pratice long-distance running. This is only €28,75 per 3 months and they also have family discounts. Usually there are 2-3 pratices a week. Besides from training, there are also 6-8 official competitions a year. Ofcourse there are more games for the people who want.

Sports

Ofcourse, we also looked at the sports in Slovenia. On Sunday we went bowling with other exchange students. But bowling is a sports too. The first thing I (Guus) noticed was the size of the bowling course. In Holland we also have bowling courses, but they're a lot smaller compared to the course we went to. A lot of people were bowling, thats another thing I noticed. We had a lot of fun and Ialso learned a lot of the sporting habitats in Slovenia. Down here is a video of Guus bowling.

On the excursion day we went to a skijumping course. I (Gregor) told Guus my cousin is a proffesional skijumper. Guus was really suprised. He told me he never went to a skijumping course before and only saw the sport on the TV. We can confirm that Slovenia is a country with a lot of wintersports, sports with snow like skiing. In the Netherlands the sports praticed in the outside in the summer are a lot more popular.

Tuesday 1 October 2013

We've thought of some sub-questions:
1. Which sports we chose and what are the criteria for our choice?
2. How good do the countries participate in the championships of these sports?
3. How much training/time need these sports?
4. How accessible are the sport facilities?

These questions will help us to answer  the main-question.

The main question of our project is: "What are the differences and similarities between the two/three most popular sports in Slovenia and the Netherlands?" We found this by comparing our interests. We will try to answer this question.
